- Updating databases is central to a DBA’s role. A database administrator updates a database by granting and renewing permissions for database access. This means they must stay on top of all changes in personnel, as well as changes in job roles and responsibilities. DBAs also perform software updates, write new SQL code and update the systems and programming languages associated with the database.
