- A Veterinarian, or Vet, is an animal doctor that is responsible for diagnosing and treating animals who are sick, injured or need routine care. They examine animals to assess their health and diagnose problems, treat and dress wounds, perform surgery on animals, test for and vaccinate against diseases, operate medical equipment, and advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments. They also prescribe medication and euthanize animals.
