- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, and lubricating the engine.
Repairs: Diagnose and fix mechanical issues, aiming for maximum reliability.
Preventative maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance such as replacing filters.
Record keeping: Keep detailed records of all repairs and maintenance services performed on vehicles.
Safety: Ensure vehicles are safe to drive and ensure the safe operating condition of brakes, airbags, and steering systems.
Workplace: Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
Communication: Communicate with customers.
Consultation: Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to vehicle users.
Tools: Operate workshop tools and equipment and maintain their working condition.
Other duties: Undertake other duties as assigned, such as painting vehicles or repairing hydraulic systems.
Car mechanics should have a strong understanding of automotive systems and tools, and good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
