Prepare samples

Histopathologists write reports on specimens and consult literature to help diagnose patients.
Plan treatment
Histopathologists play a key role in planning treatment for patients with cancer by staging and grading their tumors.
Work with other professionals
Histopathologists work with other doctors, scientists, and healthcare staff to manage patient care.
Teach and research
Some histopathologists have teaching and research responsibilities.
Attend meetings
Histopathologists attend multi-disciplinary meetings to discuss their findings with other clinicians.
Perform autopsies
Some histopathologists perform autopsies in the mortuary.

Requirements: A Ph.D. in medicine.
A minimum of 4 years of specialist training in histopathology.
Completion of the United States Medical Licensing exam.
Extensive knowledge of tissue sampling and analysis techniques.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional clinical supervision skills to lead the biomedical team.
Regular presentation of tissue and cell diagnostic reports.
The ability to write lucid clinical audit reports.
Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
